I’m the youngest of four sons, who were all born and raised in Stockton. As a kid, I only attended church for special occasions, when invited by friends. I began to develop an interest in attending services on a regular basis in high school, when I was invited to Stockton Covenant by a friend; however, it wasn’t until I was in college that I accepted Christ as my savior at a Campus Crusades for Christ meeting. By this time, my father had become a member of Stockton Covenant and encouraged me to join the choir. From the very first choir rehearsal I felt right at home, and became a church member shortly thereafter. I volunteered for the church bookkeeping job after completing my accounting degree at Sac State. Later, I was asked to take over as treasurer, and held that position until I started law school, and no longer had enough time to keep up with the demands of the job. Claire Tyson, who was working as the church bookkeeper, agreed to take over the treasurer’s position. After I completed law school, Claire asked me to take over the bookkeeping responsibilities. I filled that role until Claire reached her second council term limit, and I was asked once again to fill the treasurer’s position, with Claire as my bookkeeper. Claire and I have become great friends, and really enjoy the time we spend together each week keeping up with the church’s financial needs. January 2009 marks the beginning of my second three year term as treasurer. In addition to my leadership council role as treasurer, I enjoy being involved with various music ministries. Through music, I’ve discovered a special connection to God, and continue to find new ways to worship Him. I’ve been singing with the church choir for years, and hope to continue to do so. Occasionally, I also sing with a small mixed quartet, which is always a great blessing. One of the most challenging and rewarding music ministries for me has been singing with Awe Men, a men’s gospel quartet formed in 2007. Together with Justin McGehee, Ed Bates, and Art Kauppi, we help to lead worship and share special music at Stockton Covenant, the Gospel Center Rescue Mission, local area churches, and retirement communities. This has been an unexpected blessing in my life. I look forward to seeing what the Lord has in store for us next!
